More than ever the financial sector is concerned about risk and increasingly banks are being faced with the challenge of successfully managing environmental and social risk. Now, in its fourth year, the FT runs the very successful annual Global Sustainable Banking Conference and Awards. The awards recognise those banks that have shown leadership in this area. How are these banks managing risk and developing new business opportunities?

Designed for business teams in banks; credit, project finance, business development and customer relationship officials, the workshop takes participants through the basics of sustainable finance - from managing risk to developing new business - and is delivered in a highly interactive ‘hands-on’ way utilizing a variety of cases studies and industry practice to demonstrate “sustainable finance in practice“.

The workshop led by Clive Mason, the former Head of the Sustainable Financial Markets facility at the IFC, is designed specifically for the financial sector and not environment/technical specialists, with the minimum use of technical language, and covers the following topics:

  • What is sustainable finance and what are the key market drivers?
  • Why is sustainability important for the financial sector?
  • Learn what your environment team and external advisors are doing and how this benefits your organization.
  • Managing the commercial and reputation risk of environment and social issues
  • Identifying opportunities.
  • What are the Equator Principles, and why they have become important for the banking sector? How do the principles impact on project finance operations?
