Aims

The objective of this course is to equip existing auditors of other management systems standards with the knowledge and skills required to perform audits of safety management systems (SMS) against the national and international standards, statutory requirements and regulations using the principles of OHSAS 18001:2007.


At the end of this course participants will be able to:

  • Understand the scope and intent of the safety standards relevant to an organisation.

  • Recognise the role of a safety policy statement and its function in the SMS.

  • Understand the importance of a safety policy and how it should be based on the significant risks identified by the organisation.

  • Determine how the requirements of OHSAS 18001:2007 and BS 8800 can be integrated and implemented into the organisation’s daily routine
    make comparison between OHSAS 18001:2007, ISO 9000:2000 and ISO 14001.

  • Describe and understand the roles and responsibilities of auditors in the context of OHSAS 18001:2007.

  • Plan, prepare, perform and report an audit of the organisation against the requirements of OHSAS 18001:2007.

  • Collect and analyse audit evidence assessing the significance of observations.


Profile


This course is ideal for those who have already passed an ISO 9000 or ISO 14001 Lead Auditor Course. The programme is designed to broaden skills and give a thorough understanding of the OHSAS requirements and audit criteria. The course concludes with a two-hour examination.
